← Example scenarios

Someone joined the group and the bot greets them first

Greets everyone who joins by name and points them at the rules straight away.

In a busy group a newcomer gets lost: they ask something answered yesterday, or stay silent for a week and leave. A greeting in the first minute costs one node and prevents both.

What is inside

  1. Group event — the entry. Not only messages arrive here: joins, leaves, permission changes. What happened is in data.telegram.update_type.
  2. Is this a new member? — the branch. Everything that is not a join goes right and does nothing.
  3. Greeting addresses the person by the name in the event.
  4. Two exits: greeted, or passed over.

The greeting node’s Chat field is empty, and it should be: empty means “wherever the event came from”. Put an id in and every greeting from every group lands in one chat.

What to set up for yourself

  • The greeting text. Besides the name, put in what a newcomer looks for first: where the rules are, who to write to about an order, what is pinned.
  • The condition. It currently catches any join. Telegram sends the same event when a member leaves, so you may want to narrow it by the new status.
  • Silence otherwise. The right-hand branch is deliberately empty: a bot that answers every message in a group lasts until the first person who objects.

What to connect

A Telegram bot, and its setup matters more here than the graph:

  • add the bot to the group and make it an administrator — without that Telegram does not send the new-member event at all;
  • on the Publish tab, in the channel settings, enable chat_member updates: they are off by default, and without them the scenario never fires.

If the bot is in the group and the scenario is silent, it is almost always one of these two.
